IELTS Listening Section 1 - #02

Narrator: You will hear a conversation between a woman and a customer service representative discussing a home insurance policy. First, you have some time to look at Questions 1 to 6. (Pause for 30 seconds). Now listen carefully and answer Questions 1 to 6.

Customer Service Representative: Good afternoon! How can I assist you today?

Woman: Hi, I’m calling to get some information about your home insurance policies. I recently bought a house and want to ensure it’s properly covered.

Customer Service Representative: Congratulations on your new home! We offer several home insurance policies tailored to different needs. Do you have a specific type of coverage in mind?

Woman: I’m not entirely sure. I want to make sure the structure of the house is protected, but also the contents, like my furniture and electronics.

Customer Service Representative: That sounds like our comprehensive coverage would suit you best. It covers both the building and its contents against risks such as fire, theft, and water damage.

Woman: That’s what I’m looking for. Could you tell me what the policy includes?

Customer Service Representative: Certainly. The policy includes coverage for the building structure, up to £200,000, and the contents, up to £50,000. It also provides liability coverage if someone gets injured on your property.

Woman: That sounds good. Are there any additional features?

Customer Service Representative: Yes, you can add optional extras like accidental damage coverage, which protects against things like spilling wine on the carpet or breaking a window.

Woman: I think I’d like to add that. What’s the cost?

Customer Service Representative: The basic policy starts at £350 per year. The accidental damage coverage adds an extra £50 per year, so your total would be £400 annually.

Woman: That’s reasonable. When does the coverage start?

Customer Service Representative: The coverage can start immediately once we receive your first payment.

Woman: Great. I think I’d like to go ahead and purchase this policy.

Customer Service Representative: Wonderful! I’ll just need some details from you to get everything set up.

Narrator: Before you hear the rest of the conversation, you have some time to look at Questions 7 to 10. (Pause for 30 seconds). Now listen and answer Questions 7 to 10.

Woman: Before we proceed, I have one more question. Does the policy cover items stored in my garden shed?

Customer Service Representative: Yes, it does. Items in your garden shed are covered up to £5,000, as long as the shed is securely locked.

Woman: Good to know. And what if I decide to move? Can I transfer the policy to my new home?

Customer Service Representative: Absolutely. You can transfer the policy to your new address, but we would need to reassess the property and possibly adjust the premium.

Woman: That makes sense. I’m happy with that.

Customer Service Representative: Great! Let’s get your policy set up.

Narrator: That is the end of Section 1. You now have half a minute to check your answers. (Pause for 30 seconds).
